McCALL – (April 17, 2023) – Valley County Parks and Recreation and Valley County Pathways invite you to a public open house meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the Payette Lakes Middle School to receive an update on the Samson Trail Safe Route to School pathway project.

Last year, Valley County received a $190,000 grant from the State of Idaho under the Children Pedestrian Safety Program to build a 4- to 6-foot-wide natural surface walking/biking pedestrian trail along Samson Trail. The trail route would run south from the Middle School along Samson Trail to Pearson Lane, a distance of about 2.5 miles. The trail will be located in the county right of way running parallel to Samson Trail Road.

The trail will create a safer commuting corridor into McCall for children and adults, and it will provide a walking/biking/running trail for local residents to enjoy close to home.

Since December, Valley County Pathways, a local nonprofit, has contracted with Breckon Design to survey potential trail routes, detail wetlands issues in preparation for required permits, and create  cross-sectional engineering drawings for the trail.

Officials with Valley County Recreation and Valley County Pathways are excited to share the trail maps and drawings with Samson Trail residents and the McCall community at the public open house, answer questions and get your feedback.

The trail project is slated to begin construction in summer/fall 2023.

Valley County Parks and Recreation will be the lead agency overseeing the construction aspect of the project.
